Low-Flying Aircraft Operations
This posting will be removed on

All pilots operating in the South Flordia area are reminded to adher to minimum safe altitudes, as outlined by FAA regulations. This is essential for maintaining public safety and reducing noise over our densely populated areas.

Key Points to Remember:

  • After takeoff, please climb to at least 1,000 feet Above Ground Level (AGL) as soon as practical and maintain compliance with 14 CFR 91.119. If you are flying over the ocean, you must reach 1,000 feet AGL before changing altitude after clearing the congested area. This Requirement will be closely monitored and enforced.

  • Traffic Pattern Altitude: Maintain a traffic pattern altitude of 1,000 feet AGL

Regulatory Requirement (14 CFR § 91.119):

  • Over Congested Areas: Maintain an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft, applicable to most of Fort Lauderdale's metropolitan area.

  • Over Other Than Congested Areas: Maintain an altitude of 500 feet above the surface.

  • Helicopters, Powered Parachutes, and Weight-Shift Control Aircraft: These may operate at lower altitudes if conducted safely and in compliance with FAA-prescribed routes or altitudes.

Pre-flight Planning: Always review current sectional charts, digital obstacle data, and temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) before departure.

Thank you for your attention to these important safety protocols. Your cooperation is vital to ensuring safe and efficient flight operations in the South Florida region. Fly safe and remain vigilant.
