IA renewals are accomplished in the applicant’s responsible Flight Standards office also known as your FSDO. If you have questions regarding the requirements or are ready to renew in the month of March of the odd number years, please contact your local office.
The guidance used by FAA personnel to review Inspection Authorization renewals has been recently revised. IA’s will find it helpful to look at this document to better understand what the FAA is looking for in an IA renewal. Interested IA’s may find the guidance on the FAA’s Dynamic Regulatory System (DRS) under the category Order 8900.1, Flight Standards Information Management System, 8900.1 Contents, Volume 5, Chapter 5, Section 8.

This revision includes using IACRA as the preferred method for submitting an IA renewal. Using IACRA for the first time on IA renewals during March 2021 was well received by both IA’s and FAA personnel. In case you were wondering, we did not take away any of the previous methods of renewal, e.g. email, appointment or remote video. Additionally, the practice of IA renewals by issuance of a renewal letter is continued.
Make sure you are prepared to start your renewal in early March 2023!
