This is for users, on or near Merrill Field Airport, the MRI Air Traffic Control Tower intends to permanently reduce seasonal summer hours from 0700-0000L to 0700-2200L.
A traffic survey was conducted for the years 2018 and 2019 and the results were less than 4 operations per hour average from 2200L-0000L.
Furthermore, MRI tower did not expand into summer hours in 2020 and 2021 causing little or no inconvenience to users and no adverse impact on safety of operations.
MRI Airport Manager has also implemented a “no touch-and-go” policy past 2200L, daily.
This effort will allow MRI ATCT to realign our available resources for more effective use during other periods to support higher density operations.
