TheFatal Accident Rate:  0.71 (+.16) above goal of 0.55 fatal accidents per 100K hrs by 2025

USHST Vision:  A civil helicopter community with zero fatal accidents

 

The USHST continues to work on the implementation of 16 Helicopter—Safety Enhancements (H-SE) developed through data-driven analysis of 104 fatal accidents.  The H-SEs use Outreach, Policy, Technology/Equipment, and Training in an effort to reduce fatal accidents from the leading occurrence categories of Loss of Control—Inflight (LOC-I), Unintended Flight into IMC (UIMC), and striking objects during Low Altitude (LALT) ops.

Review UPAC Safety Guide for Helicopter Operators for basic content and revise as necessary

(Revision: July 10, 2020).

 

Helicopter - Safety Enhancement (H-SE) 30: Develop/Publish ACS Rotorcraft-Helicopter Series Safety Enhancement

Action: Policy: FAA, with support from industry, to develop and publish the new Airman Certification System (ACS) Rotorcraft-Helicopter series to replace the current Practical Test Standards (PTS) for internal and external industry stakeholders for airman certification.
