Biweekly FAA Safety Briefing News Update

Watch FAA Safety Briefing Live!

Did you miss the latest FAA Safety Briefing Live broadcast last week? No worries. Just go to www.faasafetybriefing.com/November-December.html to view an archived version of the broadcast. This edition introduces the November/December 2018 “Birds of a Different Feather” issue, which explores the tremendous diversity of general aviation and encourages you to expand your aviation horizons. You can also earn WINGS credit by completing a quiz after viewing the presentation. Just click the “Earn WINGS Credit” button in the presentation window.

Controlled Flight Into Terrain

Technological advances in situational awareness have dramatically reduced the number of General Aviation Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) accidents over the past 20 years. Nevertheless, CFIT accidents continue to occur and at least half of them are fatal. Take a look at our latest #FlySafe fact sheet (at http://bit.ly/2B2iFVI) that helps acquaint readers with the precursors of CFIT accidents and highlights some technological and safety risk management solutions. You can also watch an FAA video on CFIT here: http://youtu.be/JBxg6hgbAr8.

The Experimental Experience

How much do you know about experimental aircraft? Sure, some of the unique warbirds and home-builts might get your attention at airshows and fly-ins. But you might be surprised to know just how diverse the scope and purpose of an experimental special airworthiness certificate can be. Learning more about these “birds of a different feather” might also be your ticket to some exciting new aviation opportunities. To learn more, see the article “The Experimental Experience: Blazing a Trail in a ‘Special’ Place” in the Nov/Dec 2018 issue of FAA Safety Briefing at adobe.ly/2OYBB0e. You can read the entire issue at 1.usa.gov/FAA_ASB.
