NOTICE: New Lighting Technology Proposed for use on ND Wind Farm.
Pilots of North Dakota, as we have discussed at safety meetings over the past few years, wind generators or rather wind farms may be lighted in several different ways. One of those being the new technology “aircraft activated” type.
Reports that the Oliver III wind farm in Morton and Oliver counties has proposed to be among the first to adopt an “Aircraft Detection Lighting System or “other than constant blinking red lights” technology for their wind farms.
Please take a moment and read through AC 70/7460-1L with Change 1 for an up to date look at what these 400 foot plus obstacles may look like at night. Go to faasafety.gov for this NOTICE and the attached abbreviated look at this potential hazard.
