FAASTeam Maintenance Safety Tip
March 2012
Pre-Flight Squared ²
It is that time of year when the snow is melting and temperatures are rising. Aircraft of all types are awakening after a long hibernation in preparation for flying season.
As we all know, bird nests, contaminated fuel, and oil leaks are common after periods of extended storage. Not only does our proficiency in flying suffer, so does our knowledge and efficiency in performing preflight inspections.
I would like to ask my fellow mechanics to help. By taking a little time and assisting aircraft owners as they do their preflight inspections, we have an opportunity to catch up with old friends and lend an experienced hand.
While I understand this enhanced preflight might take a little more time, effort, and money, the safety benefits are insurmountable.
