Construction Activity Will Impact Kotzebue Airport

(FAIRBANKS, Alaska) –The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is constructing a safety improvement project at the Ralph Wien Memorial Airport (OTZ) Runway 9/27 in Kotzebue.  The safety improvement project will require partial closures of Runway 9/27 starting Saturday, July 9 at 9:00 p.m. and will impact air travel in July, August and September.  Runway 18/36 will not be affected by the safety improvements project.  A complete schedule of the closures is available at http://1.usa.gov/KotzAirportSchedule .

Safety improvements to the Ralph Wien Memorial Airport include a pavement rehabilitation for the main runway and taxiways, and replacement of the runway lighting systems. 

Construction cost for the project is $18 million and is funded by the Federal Aviation Administration.  The runway work is scheduled to be completed this October, but additional safety improvements are planned for 2013 and 2014.  More information about the project is available at: http://1.usa.gov/KotzAirport
