The National Aeronautical Charting Office has published the 7th Edition of the New York Helicopter Route Chart effective May 8, 2008. The edition includes the new North Shore route that extends over Long Island Sound just north of Long Island.
Due to the high concentration of helicopter activity, this chart is essential to helicopter pilots navigating in the New York area. Information depicted includes helicopter routes, four classes of heliports with associated frequency and lighting capabilities, NAVAIDS, and obstructions. In addition, pictorial symbols, roads, and easily identified geographical features are portrayed. Because helicopter charts have a longer life span than other FAA aeronautical charts, they are printed on synthetic paper.
