Florida resident, business owner and long-time academic, Dr. Chris Johnson is an Air Force Veteran, commercial pilot, and certified flight instructor (CFI) with certified flight instructor instrument (CFII and multi-engine instructor (MEI) ratings. Prior to building his own college flight programs, Dr. Johnson was an Assistant Professor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he specialized in next-generation simulation and training methods and autonomous systems. He earned all of his flight ratings at the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign where he began studying Human Factors and advanced simulation methods. After the economic crash of 2008 disrupted his airline career, he went on to earn his PhD in engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison (UW) where he built UW’s Flight Sim Lab and applied his expertise in Human Factors and simulation to improve aviation safety using advanced scenario-based training. He has won millions of dollars in research grants from the FAA and DoD to improve safety and to build smarter autonomous vehicles for the US Army. As an independent consultant, Dr. Johnson has built dozens of corporate drone programs for companies including Disney, Verizon and American Family Insurance, and throughout his academic pursuits, Dr. Johnson built the foundation for his company, www.PilotTrainingSystem.com, which has become the world’s largest network of collegiate flight schools and offers the world’s only FREE online ground school with over 72,000 YouTube subscribers.
