Title:
Rusty Pilot Refresher Course
Topic:
This Session Covers Topics for Pilots Who Have Been Out of the Cockpit for a While or Are New to the DC Area.
Speaker(s):
Kathy Harkness
Brief Description:
This seminar will be just over 3 hours and covers the following areas pertaining to rusty pilots and those unfamiliar with the Baltimore-Washington airspace:
- New MOSAIC rules and how they will affect existing and new pilots flying under light sport rules
- Medical rules and considerations, including light sport and BasicMed
- Aeromedical factors for older pilots and/or non-current pilots
- Changes in airspace over the years
- The DC SFRA
- Weather and briefing tools
- Changes in cockpit technology including ADS-B
- Tools for self-guided continuing education
Advanced Ground Instructor Kathy Harkness was introduced to flying when a friend bought her an introductory flight, which lit a fire in her to further explore aviation. After flying as a sport pilot for eight years she went on to buy a classic 1939 Luscombe and earn a private pilot license and both Advanced Ground Instructor and Light Sport Aircraft Repairman certificates. As an AGI, she loves to light the fire under other prospective pilots.
A cookout follows after.
