Brief Description:
Many pilots believe any "cross-control" flight is inherently dangerous. If that were true, how can we safely slip to land (required on the PPL evaluation)? When we should we cross the controls? When are we slipping and when are we skidding? "Cross-coordinated" is a skill every pilot masters during commercial-level training. But every coordinated pilot does this on every take-off (we are coordinated and wings are level, but our controls are necessarily crossed with the ball centered!). Superior knowledge, especially here, leads to safer flying.

Please read the attached PDF "Cross-Coordinated" and this SAFEblog for an introduction to tonight's webinar. There are serious misunderstandings and confusion about what is safe and correct when we "cross-control" (not to mention the usual erroneous arguments on the internet).
To get safe and efficient aircraft control we need to use the flight controls to their full extent as necessary. And every savvy CFI must understand these flight configurations, and effectively guide their learners through this confusion to better understanding and safer aircraft control. Additionally, A/O IV, Task M (slip to land) is a required maneuver for every private pilot.
SAFE CFI-PRO™ was derived from an FAA FSDO program that reduced flight training accidents by 60% in only two years! This program succeeded by requiring only one day of additional training for all new CFIs. These proven CFI techniques accelerate a new educator's abilities from "good to great" by sharing master instructor wisdom with new educators (mentoring). The previous SAFE CFI-PRO™ presentations are on the SAFE YouTube Channel.
SAFE (The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators) is an educational not-for-profit (501-c-3) professional organization with the mission of promoting aviation educational excellence, thereby exponentially elevating pilot performance at every level. Our major sponsor, ForeFlight, generously provides 1/3 off subscriptions for all our pilot members. The free "SAFE Toolkit App" has resources for CFIs, pilots and even flight test applicants (Check-Ride Ready™).
