Title:
Intro To Stalled Flight (LOC-I)
Topic:
Inflight loss of control (LOC-I) Stubbornly Remains the Number One Killer in General Aviation.
Date and Time:
Saturday, June 6, 2026, starting at 10:00 Eastern Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jason Archer, Roberto Costanzo
Brief Description:

Inflight loss of control (LOC-I) stubbornly remains the number one killer in general aviation. The majority of these accidents are stall/spins happening near airports — in the traffic pattern, on departure, during go-arounds — and they're happening to experienced pilots, not just students.

This presentation takes a hard look at the LOC-I problem: why it persists, what the accident data actually tells us, and where the gaps are in conventional stall training. From there, we'll get into the aerodynamics — what's really happening at higher angles of attack, how an airplane can stall in any attitude, at any airspeed, and with any power setting, and why either side of a wing can stall independently.

This talk will challenge what you think you know about the slow end of the flight envelope — and show you a path to becoming a safer, more confident pilot.
