Title:
NAFI MentorLIVE - Standardizing Roll Recovery in General Aviation
Topic:
Join Mark King the Evolution of Roll Upset Guidance
Date and Time:
Wednesday, May 20, 2026, starting at 19:00 Central Daylight Time (17:00 PDT; 18:00 MDT; 20:00 EDT; 14:00 HST; 16:00 AKDT; 17:00 Arizona; Thursday, May 21, 2026 00:00 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Mark King, Bob Meder
Brief Description:

In-fight loss of control (LOC-I) is the leading cause of fatal accidents in general aviation. Most end in a stall, spin, or spiral dive and are linked to deficiencies in manual fying skills. Known standards exist for stall and spin recovery, but no comparable standard exists for recovery from spiral dives and other roll upsets.

Join master aerobatic instructor Mark King as he traces the evolution of roll upset guidance, highlights key human factors, clarifes the line separating developing upsets from developed upsets, and demonstrates how startle, the instinct to pull, and weak mental models can delay or distort the pilot’s response to a roll upset. You’ll come away with a proposed solution: the Power-Push-Roll strategy as a new standard of roll upset recovery for general aviation.
