Title:
Poplar Grove Safety Club Meeting
Topic:
'Distractions on Final' as Well as ' Avoiding Convective Weather IFR'
Brief Description:
A helicopter hovers over the runway during a stop-and-go, creating a distraction that nearly causes you to stall. You manage to recover but must execute a go-around. The question is, how should you proceed? Should you keep it simple and predictable? Should you maintain visual contact with the helicopter? Or should you move completely out of the way? It's not possible to do all of these things simultaneously.
Get Me Out of Muhlenberg County
A line of convective rain is blocking the next leg of your journey. Should you try to navigate around the front of the storm where the weather conditions are better, the back of it where the terrain is lower, or should you wait for the storm to pass, hoping the large gaps between the rain don't close into mere sucker holes?
Members will watch two short video scenarios and discuss how they would respond to each situation. This is an open forum where free ideas are encouraged, and everyone can learn from shared experiences. All are welcome to join in.
