Brief Description:

Automation - VNAV and Approach. The new generation of digital autopilots and navigators opens new options for vertical navigation and maneuvering for both visual and instrument approaches. This seminar discusses autopilot operation and limitations in this new environment.

Discussion will include:

- Recommended operations

- Use of automation/autopilot

- Vertical Navigation

- Approach techniques with modern avionics

Jay Steffenhagen is an ATP and CFI with over 11,500 hours of flight time in airplanes, 6,000 of which is instruction given. He also instructs in a Redbird simulator but focuses on Cirrus SR aircraft and the G1000. His personal airplane is a well-equipped Bonanza with a Garmin GFC500 digital autopilot and GTN navigators.
