Topic:
Learn the Safety Advantages of Flying Stabilized Approaches and Practicing Go Arounds
Date and Time:
Thursday, April 24, 2025, starting at 18:30 Eastern Daylight Time (15:30 PDT; 16:30 MDT; 17:30 CDT; 12:30 HST; 14:30 AKDT; 15:30 Arizona; 22:30 GMT)
Speaker(s):
Mark Auer, FAASTeam FPM, CFII, MEI
Brief Description:
NTSB findings show that failing to establish and maintain a stabilized approach can lead to landing too fast or too far down the runway, potentially resulting in a runway excursion, loss of control, or a collision with terrain. Regardless if the flight is being flown under IFR or VFR rules, a stabilized approach is key to maintaining aircraft control and ensuring a safe landing.
Teaching Points:
- Using stabilized approach criteria to minimize the chance of a loss of control.
- Pilot actions in case of an unstabilized approach.
- Negative impacts of landing long or fast.
- Common types of accidents resulting from unstabilized approaches.
