Given the right conditions, glider pilots routinely keep their aircraft aloft for hours, covering sometimes hundreds of miles. There is no reason light airplane pilots operating in the mountains cannot use the same techniques and skills to become not only safer, but perhaps more efficient pilots while operating in the mountain environment.
