Title:
Building Your Own Airplane
Topic:
Join Tim Roberts and Thomas Carlson as they talk about regulations dealing with kit-planes and their experience building them
Date and Time:
Saturday, April 6, 2019, starting at 12:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Tim Roberts, Thomas Carlson
Brief Description:

Every pilot wants to call an airplane their own, but with factory-built aircraft being so expensive, many turn to kit planes as a cheaper alternative. With most kit planes taking thousands of hours to build, a project like this requires a lot of planning, time, and commitment. In addition to building the plane, there are many regulations that need to be followed for the airplane to be airworthy.

Join Tim Roberts and Thomas Carlson from San Carlos Airport EAA Chapter 20 as they share their experience of building a kit plane and show the progress they have made in the “Build-a-Plane” program - an airplane build project with EAA and young people.

Tim recently retired from the University of California and is getting back into aviation as a priority in retirement.  He recently earned his Light Sport Repairman certificate and is a long time certificated Private Pilot, but has been somewhat inactive in recent years. He is now getting refresher training in the Rans S6 and looks forward to flying the Vans RV-12 that the club is currently building as part of the Build-a-Plane program.  He first joined EAA in 1968 and is a lifetime aviation enthusiast.

Thomas Carlson is a sports pilot rated since 2010 and has done Aerodynamic Aviation at KRHV. He took two trips to Oshkosh in 2016 and 2017 in a Vans RV-12 that he built with his dad.
