On March 13, 2018, the FAA released a new advisory circular AC 90-66B which cancels

AC 90-66A, Recommended Standard Traffic Patterns and Practices for Aeronautical Operations at Airports Without Operating Control Towers, dated August 26, 1993; and AC 90-42F, Traffic Advisory Practices at Airports Without Operating Control Towers, dated May 21, 1990.

If you are a pilot like me who learned to fly before March of 2018, this seminar is important for you.  This AC calls attention to regulatory requirements, recommended operations, and communications procedures for operating at an airport without a control tower or an airport with a control tower that operates only part time. It recommends traffic patterns, communications phraseology, and operational procedures for use by aircraft, lighter-than-air aircraft, gliders, parachutes, rotorcraft, and ultralight vehicles.

So if you are going to lunch at Half moon bay, flying to Byron for fuel, doing power off practice approaches at Tracy, heading to the Gilroy Outlets in South County or for any other reason at any other non towered airport, this seminar will be of particular interest to you.

Kyle has been flying general aviation aircraft since 2011. He currently holds a commercial pilot certificate as well as an advanced ground instructor certificate. If he is not flying, he is probably studying for his next big project at San Jose State, where he studies aerospace engineering. Flying is one his favorite activities and he enjoys sharing the experience of flight with friends and family. He is constantly trying to find ways to make his flying skills better and is a firm believer that there is always more to be learned; perfection is never achieved. Flying is the only thing on his career plan because working in a cubicle for the next forty years is one of the only things he fears in life.
