Brief Description:

FAA Aviation Safety Inspector Mike Levine has investigated many accidents over his 17 years in the Agency.  He brings us a few cases studies on accidents he has investigated. He was there, he has the whole story.  The knowledge you gain from reviewing these events may save your life.

NWS Meteorologist Chris Outler will provide a review of the basic usage and interpretation of METARs and TAFs, as well as provide several examples.  Application of this material can be used to mitigate potential weather hazards during flight planning, and encourage safe flying conditions.  A summary of common weather hazards to the southwestern states during the summer months will also be included.

Chris Outler is a forecaster at the Las Vegas NWS office, where he has been stationed since January 2014. He has spent time working in for the NWS at Flagstaff, AZ and Medford, OR. From the Pacific Northwest, he received his degree at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, where he graduated in 2010.  Chris enjoys hiking and traveling--weather permitting.

Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) Mike Levine is a Principal Maintenance Inspector with the Nevada FSDO.  Transferring from the Los Angeles FSDO, Mike has over 17 years with the Agency, having oversight for maintenance departments of several operators and repair stations. He has been on site investigating numerous accidents over the years, and has summarized a few for our enlightenment.
