The alternative to the FAA medical went into effect on May 1st after Congress passed legislation to extend the FAA's funding. It is supposed to provide relief from holding an FAA medical for certain pilots. The relief is called BasicMed but does it a really provide relief from the medical standards pilots were expecting?

The list of provisions are spelled out on faa.gov/go/gomed and include the medical checklist and link to the BasicMed Online Medical Courses partnered by AOPA and the FAA.  Despite the relative simplicity of the program there remain many questions from pilots. What if I have a medical condition that is not included in those requiring a Special Issuance, or a new one develops - what do I do;  Can I operate with two medicals, FAA and  BasicMed?.

Brad Zeigler of the FAA's BasicMed program will call in to guide the discussion and answer your questions.

If you plan to fly in communicate on Paso Robles Airport CTAF/ Unicom Frequency on 123.0.  Airport runway lights operate from dusk to 2200.  After 2200 activate by CTAF.  Parking is available at the terminal ramp.  For further information call the Airport Manager at (805)237-3877.
