Event Details and Registration

This (2.5 hour) VIRTUAL ONLY meeting will include a review of recent accidents/incidents and pilot deviations in the state of Arizona. Many thanks to James Timm, Arizona Pilot's Association, Executive Director, for presenting the review; James Price, ASAG, Secretary, for the graphics; Brian Mehrtens, FAA Safety Team Program Manager (Operations) and Ernest Copeland, FAA Safety Team Program Manager (Airworthiness) for providing data.

Pilots, Aviation Maintenance Technicians, Airport Managers, Air Traffic Controllers, Parachutists, etc. from throughout the country are welcome and encouraged to attend.

When you register, ensure that you spell your email address correctly. A few seconds after clicking on the registration blue button, you will receive a confirmation email containing the link to join the meeting, (either from a PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android), and the meeting Password. If after 5 minutes you don’t receive an email, check your SPAM folder. If it’s not there, perhaps you spelled your email incorrectly, so try registering again.

If you would like to join by phone, the confirmation email contains everything you will need: The Phone Number, Meeting ID and the meeting Password.

NOTE: We will be using the FAA’s Zoom account for the August meeting.

Prior to the meeting you will receive a meeting reminder, the  August agenda &  the Zoom registration link.
For an online only meeting such as this, registering for Zoom, if you use your faasafety.gov email, also registers you for WINGS credit. There is then no need to also register on https://www.faasafety.gov/

However, if your Zoom email is different from your FAASafety.gov email, please enter the name and email you use on https://www.faasafety.gov/ in the Chat.

PILOTS, PAY ATTENTION - TETHERED WEATHER BALLOON SAFETY ISSUE between Phoenix Deer Valley and Glendale Regional

The Scottsdale FSDO folks are trying very hard to get this stopped but are fighting folks that approved this from outside of our state. We have severe doubts they will be successful and we must be prepared to avoid this hazard.    Please use extreme caution if you fly between Phoenix Deer Valley and Glendale Regional for what we can only describe as a vertical “Slacklines”  over the ASU West Campus extending up to 5,000’ MSL.  The floor of the Bravo in this area is 6,000’ MSL, but if you are heading south, the floor rapidly lowers to 3,000’ MSL.  Make sure you have NOTAMS turned on in your EFB and keep your eyes open.  If you are deviating around to the west don’t forget to establish radio contact with Luke Approach on 118.15 if the SATR is active.  Remember the SATR is active Monday through Friday, Sunrise to Sunset, other times by NOTAM.  Also be mindful of Glendale’s Delta and make sure you establish radio contact with them.  The main goal is avoiding the hazard.
