Title:
2023 FAASTeam Aviation Safety Stand Down at Searcy Arkansas
Topic:
Flying Safely Through Discipline
Date and Time:
Saturday, March 18, 2023, starting at 08:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
David Dow, Tom Guillebeau, Robbie Hill, David Vaughan, Beau Hardison, David Wagnon, Steve Foster
Brief Description:

The "safety stand down" is a long-standing tradition in the aviation community, first put into place in large scale by the US Air Force in the 1970's  After a major accident, incident, or series of incidents, the unit involved,or the operators of similar aircraft, would stand down, ceasing operations until a cause could be identified.  This tradition remains an important safety tool even now, and has spread to many civilian operations, commercial and private. Thankfully, aviation safety in the US has improved significantly, and the safety stand down has found application in many areas as a planned event.  Thus the FAASTeam effort and strategy is to review significant topics on General Aviation safety, and intentionally review these areas with an intent to improve aviator proficiency and attention to safety.

Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):

The Arkansas FAASTeam, and the Arkansas Flight Safety Cooperative, are sponsoring a state-wide stand down in 2023 to provide our State's aviation community a say to focus on aviation safety and re-align our focus.  As pilots we tend to get complacent about flying, and spending a day together to discuss and review important aviation safety topics is a productive activity.  It helps to renew interest, fight against complacency, and helps us to focus on important aspects of "Flying Safely".
