Title:
Understanding Weather
Topic:
Knowledge of Basic Weather Patterns and Phenomena to Understand How These Events Can Effect a Flight
Brief Description:
Every person operating as a Pilot, from ultralights through airliners, needs to have a solid understanding of weather. A sudden change in weather may be an inconvenience on the ground, but can become a tragedy in the air. The challenge we face is that weather is a vastly complicated subject. The subject matter of weather is so large, in fact, that there are many careers covering the different aspects of the field.
This course aims to introduce us to some basic weather concepts, and how we can leverage the knowledge of weather professionals to keep us safe in flight.
Two major resources we will be using are:
1. Aviation Weather Handbook (FAA-H-8083-28A), available for free as a pdf from the FAA.
2. The website: aviationweather.gov
