Title:
ASCEND 2026 - Playing Nice or Not - Dealing with the School Down the Runway
Topic:
Tips for Coexisting with the Flight School Down the Road
Date and Time:
Tuesday, September 8, 2026, starting at 15:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Zack Weisenburger
Brief Description:

This moderated panel tackles the friction of sharing an airport with another flight school - overlapping patterns, competing radio calls, unwritten rules - from both a safety and business standpoint. Panelists cover CTAF radio discipline, situational awareness, and precursors to runway incursions, alongside the commercial realities of coexisting with a competing operator on the same field: scheduling, airspace coordination, reputation, and referral dynamics. Attendees will leave able to spot communication and awareness lapses at shared-use airports, apply CTAF discipline and standard-pattern procedures, recognize incursion precursors, and weigh coordination and business strategies for operating alongside a competing school.
