Title:
VMC and IMC Scenario Based Safety Discussion
Topic:
VMC Scenario - Full Pattern IMC Scenario - Is it Real
Date and Time:
Saturday, September 5, 2026, starting at 09:00 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Timothy Meyer, Howard Kaney
Brief Description:

VMC Question of the Month:  One focus area for improving safety revolves around Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT). According to the FAA, what are some of the factors involved in CFIT accidents, and what precautions can be taken to avoid CFIT accidents?

IMC Question of the Month:  You’re about to depart on an IFR flight and although icing is not specifically forecast for your area, conditions include visible moisture and temperatures nearing freezing. At what point should you turn on your pitot heat?

We will discuss the answers to the two questions of the month as well as the VMC and IMC video scenarios and discuss what we would do if we wound ourselves in the same situations ro more importantly, what we would do to prevent ourselves from getting in to those situations in the first place.

Additional Event Information & Acknowledgement of Industry Sponsor(s):

The EAA VMC Club provides a "hangar flying" experience organized around visual flight, in order to promote safety, education, and proficiency. Every meeting consists of a scenario presentation and group discussion about unusual or interesting charts, changed rules and procedures, and member experiences. We also have occasional guest speakers.

Join in the discussion. Give us your opinion. You may be surprised at how many ideas the group will have and have some fun, learning at the same time! Please join us and tell us “What would you do?”. Bring your EFB, your experience, and your questions, and be ready to participate. All are welcome. You do not need to be an EAA member to attend.

Sponsored by EAA Chapter 1158, but you do not have to be a member or a pilot to attend.
