Brief Description:
On July 24, 2025, a new set of regulations called MOSAIC became effective. As a part of this change, new rules for experimental and light sport aircraft maintenance were introduced and greatly expanded the opportunities for more individuals to do their own maintenance in these aircraft.
We will dive down into new opportunities for repairmen to do their own maintenance and condition inspections, what training is required, and some of the specifics around operating limitations and how to get those updated to utilize these new privileges. We will share how to get a repairman certificate even for aircraft you did not build! In addition, we will do practical examples of maintenance scenarios to help you better understand these privileges.
At the end of the discussion, you will have the required knowledge to know how you may be able to do maintenance and condition inspections on experimental or light sport aircraft, yet not have to be an A&P!

Driving: From US 75, Route 56 (E Lamar Street) East for 1.6 miles. Then, turn right onto state route 11 (S Dewey Ave). Continue for 0.9 miles, and the airport and terminal will be on your right (west side of road). Upon arrival at the airport, park in the parking lot adjacent the terminal building, and enter the front or rear door. The meeting room is immediately seen upon entry.
Flying: check NOTAMS for any runway closures at KSWI. Park in parking area next to terminal/fuel pumps and enter rear of terminal. It is adjacent the rotating beacon for the airport.
