Title:
Lincoln Logan County (KAAA) Fly-In/Drive-In WINGS Seminar and Lunch
Topic:
Defending the Envelope: Why Weight, Balance, & Aircraft Performance Calculations Are So Critical
Date and Time:
Saturday, June 13, 2026, starting at 09:30 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Nick Loftus, SPI FAASTeam
Brief Description:

You might think you already have weight, balance, and aircraft performance calculations mastered, especially with a modern Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) doing the math, but even experienced pilots fall victim to hidden pitfalls like the "Garbage In, Garbage Out" software trap and the normalization of deviance.  We will go beyond the baseline calculations to explore the severe aerodynamic realities and psychological factors that silently erode general aviation safety margins.  By dissecting real-world case studies, you will see exactly how easily overlooked estimations break the safety chain.
