Ask Your CFI - Panel Discussion on Accident Avoidance

..  Discussion focused on accident prevention during the different phases of flight.

..  Pre-Flight planning - (14 CFR) part 91, states, "Each pilot in command shall, become familiar with all available information concerning that flight."

..  Taxing – might seem straightforward, but is far more intricate than it appears

..  Take off, Climb - this phase of a flight is relatively short, but the pilot’s workload is intense.

..  Cruise, Decent – cruise generally is less demanding, but requires well-trained crews, and awareness to possible human errors, equipment failure, wx, and decent preparation, being a tightly coordinated process that prepares the aircraft for an approach safely and efficiently.

..   Approach, Landing - the approach plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and controlled landing.  It is vital to have a procedural sequence firmly in mind and know what actions you'll perform on each leg of the pattern. The pilot should learn to cultivate a detached, yet alert awareness of their progress.

By attending this seminar, and others like it, you can become part of the FAA Pilot Proficiency Award Program [also known as WINGS] by participating in a recurrent training program. This program was expanded in 2008 and developed for a higher level of safety by employing consistent recurrent training, which has been identified as a major factor in reducing General Aviation [GA] accident rates.

Remember, as part of this seminar program, WINGS is designed to help keep you safe, and by participating and staying WINGS current you may maintain a valid Flight Review. We appreciate your participation in this event.

Do you know your limitations? The seminar will also direct your attention to the Mid Island Personal Limitations Checklist to help teach “situational awareness " through the experiences of other pilots . . . help develop good judgment, . . . . and better understand what's legal vs. what's safe and smart.
