This session offers a comprehensive overview of runway incursions and the FAA’s classification framework. Participants will analyze real-world aviation incidents and accidents to determine classifications, identify root causes, and develop effective avoidance strategies. Additionally, we will examine current incursion statistics for the North Texas region to establish best practices and proactive procedures for enhancing future ground safety.

Directions to Venue:
To reach Texas Woman’s University from I-35 exiting on University Drive, start by taking Exit 469 for US-380. If you are arriving from the Fort Worth side (I-35W), you will turn right onto University Drive; if coming from the north, you will turn left. Continue east for about two miles, passing through several major intersections and local shopping centers. As you approach the campus, the large dormitory high-rises will become visible on your right. To enter the main grounds, turn right onto Bell Avenue, which serves as the primary artery through the university.
Alternatively, if you are approaching from Dallas via I-35E, take Exit 464 for Dallas Drive (US-77). Follow Dallas Drive as it heads north toward the downtown area. The road will eventually pass under a railroad bridge and naturally curve to the right, transitioning into Bell Avenue. Continue straight on Bell Avenue for roughly a mile and a half, crossing through the McKinney Street intersection.
Designated parking is available to the north and southeast of the MCL building. Attendees may enter through the west or northeast entrances.From the main lobby, take the stairs or elevator to the second floor. Room 201 is the large glass-walled space immediately visible from the elevator and stairwell.

Puryear is an experienced aviator, instructor, and aspiring leader in the aviation industry. A native of Tyler, Texas, Puryear began their professional journey at the University of Oklahoma, where they earned a degree in aviation with a professional pilot track, achieving their private, instrument, commercial, and multi-engine ratings.
Upon moving to Denton, he expanded his teaching credentials, obtaining their CFI and CFII (Part 61) at In The Pattern at KDTO. They then served as a dedicated instructor at USA Aviation Academy for two years, working as both a flight instructor (CFI) and ground school instructor.
Driven by a commitment to both operational excellence and institutional leadership, Puryear is pursuing a Master's degree in Aviation Management at Purdue University, alongside certifications in aviation safety and finance. He is also actively working toward his multi-engine instructor rating to further broaden his instructional capabilities. Puryear's goal is to leverage his growing professional background to better assist students and become a leading member of the aviation community.
