Title:
False Sense of Security
Topic:
Flight Reviews Really Matter
Date and Time:
Thursday, December 18, 2025, starting at 18:00 Eastern Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Jurg Grossenbacher
Brief Description:

If a Pilot just had a recent Flight Review or a Instrument Competency Check he should be good to go. Right? Not so fast, through works we have discovered that many pilots are not receiving proper evaluations for their knowledge or skill during their Flight Review or FAA WINGS Flight Activities.

We will discuss how this is possible and what you can do to avoid this pitfall:

  • Flight instructors spend the vast majority fo their time teaching. A flight review is not teaching but rather it is an evaluation of the pilot's ability to conduct a safe flight.
  • Flight reviews and Instrument Competency Checks are not a pass-fail event.  We will explain!

This leave us with the important question on how you will receive the best evaluation to keep YOU safe? The answer is found in FAA Advisory Circular 61-98E. Our speakers will address:

  • Preparation for the event by the pilot
  • Interview with the Instructor
  • Written Plan of Action for the Flight Review/ Instrument Competency Check,
  • Thorough Ground and Flight
  • Debrief
  • Future Plan of Action
