Topic:
Winter Flying Tips in the Northeast
Speaker(s):
Michael Kutch, CFI, CFII & Chris Richardson CFI
Brief Description:
Winter flying can feature clear skies, unlimited visibility and great aircraft performance, but it can also bring hazardous conditions in the air and on the ground. In this seminar, we will discuss how to prepare for and execute safe flights in the winter months. Topics we'll review during the seminar:
- Pre-flight. Getting the plane prepared can take longer. Pilots must allow for extra time to pre-flight and plan for the flight.
- Pre-flight and post-flight inspections must include the aircraft surfaces to confirm they are free from snow, ice and frost.
- Forced landings off site in snow result in fewer and less severe injuries, but survival on the ground depends on good knowledge, skill and equipment.
- Review appropriate clothing, survival gear and where to keep these in the aircraft.
