Title:
Over-Reliance on Technology
Topic:
Pilots' Over-Reliance on Automation can Lead to Accidents and Incidents
Date and Time:
Thursday, November 20, 2025, starting at 19:00 Eastern Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Mr. Jamie Beckett
Brief Description:

Today’s flight world is abundant with all types of computer systems to track locations, manage aircraft systems, going so far as to independently fly the aircraft. Have we gone too far? Recent accident reports have highlighted cases that while the pilot-in-command was checking these electronics or dealing with a possible issue they failed to fly the aircraft leading to an accident or incident.

Mr. Jamie Beckett, with AOPA, will be sharing the evolution of automation in the cockpit and techniques that a pilot can use to manage their attention so as it not lose focus. The seminar will touch on technology and the role it can play in general aviation from Cubs to Cirrus and beyond?
