Title:
Getting Found And Surviving The Wait
Topic:
Satellite-based Communication Is Readily Available To Aviators In The Event That An Emergency Arises, Requiring Rescue.
Date and Time:
Saturday, May 17, 2025, starting at 11:30 Central Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Mike Vivion
Brief Description:

Today, several types of satellite-based communication are readily available to aviators in the event that an emergency arises, requiring rescue.  While that is true, many circumstances may delay rescue forces' arrival to provide them with a ride home. Mike will discuss both the tools available to us to communicate, as well as discuss the importance of other tools and skills, which can keep us safe and alive until help arrives.  Mike speaks from personal experience in survival situations in Alaska.

Mike Vivion worked for the US Fish & Wildlife Service as a Wildlife Biologist/Airplane Pilot for nearly 30 years in Alaska.  In the course of his duties there, he flew several airplane types on wheels, skis and floats throughout much of Alaska, and as an instructor provided numerous checkouts and instruction in various airplanes and configurations.   Mike was named the National Aviation Safety Counselor of the Year by the FAA in 1998, is a Wright Brothers Master Pilot and holds Master Instructor certification from SAFE.
