Tom Koop
Brief Description:

Learning to drive a "boat with wings", experiencing aerodynamic and hydrodynamic drag like you never would have imagined...seaplanes facilitate the most adventure, the most exhilaration, the most freedom...along with some very real "aha" moments in the early learning phase!

Tom Koop began flying with his dad in the Brainerd Lakes area in 1963 and soloed at Brainerd Airport on June 4, 1971, just after his 16th birthday.  Since then, he has logged over 5,000 hours, all in light planes, mostly single engine Cessnas.  Two weeks after obtaining his float rating in 1997, Tom purchased his first seaplane and continued in seaplane ownership for the ensuing 25 years.  Koop is certificated as a seaplane pilot, CFI-I, Gold Seal Instructor, AGI, Multi-engine Instructor, and Airline Transport Pilot.  Since retiring from the CPA profession 10 years ago, Tom has focused most of his time on flight instruction and teaching the Brainerd High School aviation classes: Fundamentals of Aviation and Private Pilot Ground School.
