Title:
Ski Flying - The Most Fun You Can Have In An Airplane
Topic:
Learn About Ski-plane Operations, The How-to's And The Hazards.
Brief Description:
Mike spent twenty winters in central Alaska, both working and recreating in ski equipped airplanes. In his opinion, ski flying really is the most fun a pilot can have in an airplane. Many pilots have been unable to find much information on flying skis either in print or online. The FAA requires no certification or training of any kind to operate an airplane on skis. In this program, Mike will discuss aircraft types that lend themselves to ski operations, proper rigging of skis, important equipment for use in ski flying, and a discussion of piloting techniques for operating a ski equipped aircraft.
Mike Vivion worked for the US Fish & Wildlife Service as a Wildlife Biologist/Airplane Pilot for nearly 30 years in Alaska. In the course of his duties there, he flew several airplane types on wheels, skis and floats throughout much of Alaska, and as an instructor provided numerous checkouts and instruction in various airplanes and configurations.
