Advanced Backcountry Flying Safety Course

Courses are personally conducted by CFI Milne "CC" Pocock of Bush Air.

The primary objective of this course is to make all pilots much SAFER, more PROFICIENT, CONFIDENT & SKILLED! Reducing the accident risk in short field, off-airport, "hot & high", low level, and mountain flying operations.

This is a comprehensive and intense course that includes more than 2 hours of ground school, familiarization and exploring the flight envelope, slow flight, flying on the stall, stall recovery, spin prevention and recovery, optimum performance, short field, soft & rough field, off-airport, obstacle clearance takeoffs, and landings, flying without instruments, emergency and precautionary procedures, mountain and canyon flying, Loss of Control, Stall-Spin and CFIT prevention, including various tasks listed in the ACS.

From the start of this training, emphasis is placed on correcting common pilot weaknesses such as bad takeoff, approach and landing techniques, and coordinated flight. You will discover areas within the airplane's performance envelope you never thought possible through a proper intensive familiarization and test flight. Learn how to consistently "grease" all landings and how to obtain maximum performance from your aircraft. Even if you never intend to fly in the backcountry or mountains, the techniques and procedures you will learn during this course is guaranteed to make you a much more proficient, confident, safer, and skilled pilot, in general, every day flying.

The level-1 course is held over four days and includes approximately 5 hours of flight time.

Flight review, tail wheel, and CFI spin endorsements may be included.

The Bush & Mountain Flying handbook is supplied to all attendees and is the official course manual.

All pilots, including sport, recreational, private, commercial, airline & instructors will benefit from attending this course.

Courses are available at the Bush Air home base on Kidwell Airport (1l4) in Cal-Nev-Ari, Nevada, as well as other suitable locations within the US and worldwide.
