"Getting Out of This Stuff - VFR into IMC and the Graveyard Spiral (Hybrid Event)"
Saturday, November 7, 2026 10:00 Pacific Standard Time

Located at:
Bremerton National Airport
Bremerton Airport 8850 WA-3
Old Terminal Building
Bremerton, WA 98312

Description:

Eric Rubel and Chris Hoffman lead a scenario discussion built on NTSB report CEN24FA243: a cross-country flight from Mount Vernon, Ohio toward Oberlin, Kansas that ended in a graveyard spiral.

Our topic: "Getting Out of This Stuff." We walk the day as it unfolded - two fuel stops, a divert, about eleven hours on the clock - and how a gentle bank can become a graveyard spiral when there is no attitude indicator in the panel. We work on recognizing the entry, the recovery, and the earlier decisions that make the recovery unnecessary.

The EAA 406 IMC Club meets monthly for guided discussions of real scenarios that call for tough decisions in the IFR environment. This is a true participative discussion, and is eligible for WINGS Credit.

Pilots of all levels, student pilot to ATP, are welcome.
