"Slipping and Skidding: The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Flying Uncoordinated"
Wednesday, October 21, 2015 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time

Located at:
San Carlos Flight Center
655 Skyway Road
Suite 215
San Carlos, CA 94070

Description:

New pilots often get confused about what it means to fly uncoordinated.  Some have heard about cross-controlled stalls, accidental spins, and other flight hazards and have learned to fear anytime the ball is outside of the center race on the turn coordinator.  But there’s much more to learn than simply that.  In fact, a beautifully executed crosswind takeoff or landing will demand the pilot be cross-controlled, with the ball well outside of the center race.  What is the real answer?  When is it safe to be uncoordinated in an airplane?

SCFC has invited experience aerobatics flight instructor and Reno race pilot Justin Phillipson to help us better understand the differences between slipping and skidding.  What situations call for slipping?  What pilot control inputs will make the airplane slip safely?  What are the limits of slip control?  Why is skidding so dangerous?  Improve your knowledge and your ability to stay safe by attending this exciting lecture.
