"Why Do Even Great Pilots Have Accidents?"

Description:

General Aviation (GA) pilots have the hardest job in aviation; flying solo with a minimal "support system" in the most challenging and diverse flight environment. By contrast airline and corporate flight departments have huge resources to ensure safety: weather, dispatch, and maintenance departments combined with world-class initial and recurrent pilot training. Most commercial operations are IFR with a limited number of predictable destinations and a two-person crew.

Airline and corporate flying are strictly regulated (intentionally boring- no surprises!) Recreational flying enjoys exceptional freedom and flexibility. With the stated mission of "fun flying," the GA risk profile is much higher!   To maintain safety, every GA pilot needs to respect and aggressively mitigate risk by establishing an objective safety margin. Understanding this responsibility and incorporating personal safety standards increases flight safety. Seminar notes here.
