A library of 3-D animations based on real-life events will also enhance your learning experience. We encourage you to build the FAA Runway Safety Pilot Simulator into your kit for Private and Commercial Pilot training, Flight Reviews, and safety seminars.

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to identify airport markings and signs, avoid common errors in airport surface operations, and know what Advisory Circular to reference for additional information.

DISTINGUISHED PRESENTER - CAPTAIN BARRY SCHIFF

Capt. Barry Schiff retired from TWA in 1998 after a 34-year career flying everything from the “Connie” to the Boeing 747. He was a check captain on the Boeing 767 and flew many trips around the world in the Boeing 707. He holds every flight instructor rating and every category and class rating (except airship).

A prolific writer and stanch general aviation safety advocate, he wrote a dozen award-winning aviation books and more than 1,800 magazine articles, including as contributing editor for AOPA Pilot over the last 57 years and counting. Schiff has accumulated more than 28,000 hours in 361 different types of aircraft and was an FAA-designated examiner for 12 years.

Among Captain Schiff’s many accomplishments includes his work developing and successfully gaining adoption of the concept of providing general aviation pilots with safe VFR routes through high-density airspace. Schiff’s honors include being inducted as a Living Legend of Aviation and the National Flight instructor Hall of Fame, and receiving an honorary doctorate from Embry-Riddle. He holds several world speed records including one taken from the Soviet Union.

PRESENTER - CAPTAIN BRIAN SCHIFF

Brian Schiff has actively instructed since earning his flight and ground instructor certificates in 1985. He is a Gold-seal CFI with several instructor ratings and is recognized for his ability to simplify complex procedures and concepts. On the side, he is a major US airline captain. He is type-rated on the Airbus A320, Boeing 727, 757, 767, DC-9 (MD-80), CL-65 (CRJ), LR-JET, and G-V. He has more than 20,000 hours ranging from general and corporate aviation, charter, regional and major airlines.

Brian regularly conducts aviation safety and techniques seminars to student and professional pilots alike. He authored many aviation related articles and regularly contributes to several aviation newsletters. He mentors on-line and works at numerous aviation job fairs.

Brian has a consulting business in matters relating to aviation safety including flight instruction, safety and training seminars, remedial training for FAA, flight department standardization and expert witness. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Science from ERAU and a Master’s in Aviation Safety from the University of Central Missouri and recently joined the NAFI Board of Directors.

HOST - RON TIMMERMANS

Ron Timmermans earned his Private Pilot Certificate in 1972, and went on to add Commercial, Instrument, CFI/MEI, ATP, and Remote Pilot. Shortly after earning a CFIIA/MEI-IA, Ron became a Beechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program Ground and Flight instructor. He also started a part-time flight instruction practice which, as he moved to locations around the country with his career, grew because of his recognized expertise as a Beechcraft instructor in the area.

Selected by AOPA as a professional ground instructor for the ‘Rusty Pilots’ program, Ron now makes presentations to reach long inactive pilots to encourage their return to flight. Ron is a FAASTeam Lead Representative giving monthly presentations on GA safety topics, has given many Young Eagle rides, has authored training curriculum, and has developed flight instructor standardization guides, published articles, and served in leadership positions on the American Bonanza Society Board of Directors.

Ron received the 2017 CFI of the Year for the Orlando FSDO and the FAA Southern Region. In addition, he received the first Larry D. Enlow Award for contributions to aviation safety and training in the Orlando FSDO.
