Weather Tools and Issues in the Caribbean - An Update from NOAA
New Weather tools from NOAA will be discussed as well as a briefing about the weather issues in the Caribbean.
Date and Time:
Tuesday, March 3, 2020, starting at 18:00 Atlantic Standard Time Download Calendar File
Moderator: Alan Lord; Primary Speaker: José Alamo from NOAA San Juan
Brief Description:

Weather continues to be a challenge to pilots in the Caribbean.  The GA aviation community continues to face issues like the Sahara dust and our pop-up rain storms created by the clouds and fronts in the area. These can easily fool pilots into believing that they are going out for a clear VFR trip, when in fact, after a few thousand feet in the air, they encounter the Sahara dust or a storm and to their surprise, they lose the horizon view or the ground can not be seen. We have invited José Alamo from our local NOAA office to discuss local climatology, how synoptic-scale features affect the local weather, and some exciting new weather analysis products that have been available in the mainland USA and are now being brought to us in the Caribbean.
