Title:
TFRs / Airspace and ADS-B
Topic:
TFRs, Airspace & ADS-B are facts of life. Be smart about planning and flying safe & deviation free flights?
Date and Time:
Thursday, April 18, 2019, starting at 17:00 Pacific Daylight Time (18:00 MDT; 19:00 CDT; 20:00 EDT; 14:00 HST; 16:00 AKDT; 17:00 Arizona; Friday, April 19, 2019 00:00 GMT)
Speaker(s):
John Townsley, FAASTeam volunteer
Brief Description:

Most GA flying occurs during the spring and summer, and so do TFRs.  TFRs can pop up in any month, any season and anywhere.  Hot summer weather has already resulted in thousands of fires and well over 100 TFRs.  In addition to TFRs over wildfires, other disasters may bring a TFR.  Pilots can expect TFRs over airshows and sporting events.  It's an election year so expect VIP TFRs.  Most TFRs are mapped, some are not.  Also, the ADS/B-OUT mandate is 8 months away.  What airspace will require we have it?  Do you know about non-FAA airspace that can be expensive to violate?  Is our self briefing with our favorite App on our tablet, phone, or avionics going to keep us out of trouble?  How can we plan and fly smart?  Join the webinar and find out.

Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) are a fact of life in the United States.  We'll look closely at the more common TFRs, and discuss what other kinds of TFRs you may encounter on a coast-to-coast cross country flight across the US.  Some TFRs can "pop up" with no notice, others may show up with lots of prior warning.  Some are charted, others are not.  What are strategies we can use to learn when and wher TFRs might be along our route? What should we do to avoid a violation?  We'll briefly discuss where ADS/B-Out will be required after 1 January 2020.  Learn about non-FAA sactions pilots can incur by violating certain airspace, such as over National Marine Sanctuaries.  Our speaker will be John Townsley, a long time FAASTeam member, a former Airspace Coordinator and retired commercial pilot who lives in eastern Washington.
