WIND and WEATHER

with John Mahany

In this presentation, John will briefly review some of the basics of weather that cause the wind to blow.  He will then discuss the winds that arise in our everyday flying, including how the wind affects our takeoffs and landings (headwinds, crosswinds, tailwinds), as well as in flight. Followed by some of the more serious wind effects for even the heavy aircraft, wind shear and turbulence, which are also caused by winds.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

John Mahany has now been flying for over 40 years, and has been a CFI since 1980. He is a Master CFI. He has corporate, airline and charter experience. John spent 4 ½ years flying in Alaska, where he learned ‘bush’ flying, and gained experience on floats and snow-skis, as well. He is currently a Cessna Citation Instructor at a FAR 142 school in Long Beach, CA.

John is actively involved in the aviation community, locally, as part of the FAASTeam and as Flight Advisor for EAA Chapter 7 in Long Beach. He is a founding member of SAFE, an organization for aviation educators. He is a partner in a 1953 Cessna 180.
