Aircraft Icing during flight can be catastrophic. It disrupts the flow of air over the aircraft diminishing the wing's maximum lift and propellor's thrust thus reducing the angle of attack for maximum lift, which in turn, adversely affects an aircraft's handling characteristics while significantly increasing drag.
