Title:
Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary
Topic:
Fly Seabird Safe near our Californian Coastal Seabird Sanctuaries
Date and Time:
Wednesday, June 7, 2017, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Sean Denny
Brief Description:

The California coast is home to 25 million people, many of whom spend time in, around, and/or above the water. Such high levels of traffic can put pressure on our coastal wildlife, including recovering seabird and marine mammal populations, who also call our coast home. Among the challenges facing coastal wildlife are low-overflights by fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. This seminar will introduce you to coastal wildlife, illuminate how and why low overflights can be problematic for seabird and marine mammal conservation, and ultimately focus on the location of NOAA Regulated Overflight Zones and the reasons we have them. Please bring your sectionals. Hope to see you there!

Join Sean Denny who is an Outreach Specialist for the Seabird Protection Network, a program of Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. He has a Master’s in Conservation Science from Imperial College London and experience working on conservation issues in both the United States and abroad. From 2011-2013, Sean taught high school biology in Central Africa in the United States Peace Corps.
