Title:
Compliance Philosophy
Topic:
Information Meeting on Compliance Action
Date and Time:
Wednesday, May 10, 2017, starting at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Don Arendt, AFS-900
Brief Description:

The Federal Aviation Administration is revamping its Compliance Philosophy in an effort to identify systemic risk to all in the airspace system by gathering and sharing information from the pilots themselves. Education and remedial training for situations involving pilot error resulting from lack of understanding, flawed procedures, diminished skill or simple mistakes is the FAA’s preferred choice of remediation leaving certificate action reserved for intentional acts of non-compliance, West Valley Flying Club has invited the FAA to introduce the Enforcement Program and Compliance Philosophy to the local community.

The FAA is turning its focus from enforcement to an educational approach centered around remedial training and addressing key safety issues. The FAA will now offer remedial training as an option to certificate action. The FAA’s new compliance philosophy is designed to better understand what causes pilot error and to help facilitate open and honest communication to bring about positive and lasting change. In this way, the FAA can focus on fostering a culture of safety, while also improving pilot skill.

Don Arendt of the FAA will provide a background of compliance philosophy, receive feedback, and help answer questions the pilot community may have.
