Former “Blue Angels Commander Bill Newman will share his experiences flying with the “Blue Angels” during 1978 and 1979.
Brief Description:
"Bill will describe the Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron (The Blue Angels) from the viewpoint of one who has been their flight leader/commanding officer. This will cover the history, mission, squadron personnel and description of their preparation for and conduct of a typical air show season. It will also describe the challenges and techniques of flying aerobatic maneuvers with six aircraft in close formation. Some of the Blues' traditional maneuvers, which have not changed much over the years, will be described in detail. A Q&A period will follow Bill's talk."

Additional Information: Also, on Saturday, the May 13 “Fly Day,” the Heritage Flight Museum (HFM) will be host to three very special guest speakers on their Vietnam experiences in CSAR in the late 60’s and early 70’s. USAF Majors Rick Drury and Jim Bender will speak not only of their experience flying those big ‘ol birds on search and rescue missions, but will be joined by USN Capt. Evan “Pee Wee” Reese, whom they rescued when his A-6A Intruder went down after being hit by enemy fire. Having these amazing fighter pilots here to speak personally of what it was like, is truly priceless and a not to be missed opportunity.
Doors open at 11 am, Saturday, May 13th, with sorties highlighting our A-1 Skyraider, O-1 Bird Dog and (grounded) O-2 Skymaster, among others, scheduled throughout the day. The Main Event CSAR presentation will be at 2 pm, with a final sortie at 3:30 pm.
The Safety Brief participants are invited to “migrate” to the HFM to be a part of the above event!
