A FEW THINGS I'VE LEARNED IN 40 YEARS OF FLYING
with John Mahany
This year marks 40 years since John soloed in a Cessna 150 at KPWK, what was formerly known as Pal-Waukee Airport, which is 10 miles north of Chicago’s infamous O’Hare Field, KORD. Pal-Waukee has since been renamed Chicago Executive Airport. Over the years as both pilot and then instructor, John has had the opportunity to fly a wide range of aircraft, in a variety of locales. His goal is to both keep it interesting and keep learning! This includes experience gained on floats and snow-skis, in gliders, tail wheel aircraft, radial engine aircraft, the backcountry, and more. He has now flown more than 100 different makes and models of aircraft. He is still learning and is looking for more aerial adventures.
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:
John Mahany has now been flying for 40 years, and has been a CFI since 1980. He is a Master CFI. He has corporate, airline and charter experience. John spent 4 ½ years flying in Alaska, where he learned ‘bush’ flying, and gained experience on floats and snow-skis, as well. He is currently a Cessna Citation Instructor at a FAR 142 school in Long Beach, CA.
John is actively involved in the aviation community, locally, as part of the FAASTeam and as Flight Advisor for EAA Chapter 7 in Long Beach. He is a founding member of SAFE, an organization for aviation educators. He is a partner in a 1953 Cessna 180.
